And this year, the results, obtained by Madden NFL 10, the latest stats and a secret procedure EA is not revealing, are favoring the New Orleans Saints, the champions of the NFC, which are set to take down the Indiana Colts, the representatives of the AFC, by 35 to 31.

It’s one of the closest games that the publisher has simulated and most of the specialized betting services are saying that the game will be going to the Colts when Sunday comes.

Electronic Arts predicted Super Bowl XLIII pretty well, with the initial Pittsburgh domination, then giving way to a comeback on the part of the Cardinals who ultimately failed to dislodge the advantage of the Steelers, who took home the trophy. Madden NFL has managed to predict the winners of five of the last six Super Bowl matches and Electronic Arts is saying that both Championship matches, for the AFC and the NFC, were accurately called for this season.

The Madden NFL 10 simulation is stating that as the fourth quarter starts, the Indiana Colts are set to have a lead of 24 to 21. Reggie Bush of the Saints starts by returning a punt for a touchdown and the Colts respond with a collaborative effort between Peyton Manning and Joseph Addai.

The game clincher comes from Drew Brees, who also goes on to win the Most Valuable Player of the XLIV Super Bowl. It would be the first time in the 40+ history of the New Orleans Saints when they pick up the Super Bowl trophy. It will be fascinating to see whether the real results on Sunday will match the Electronic Arts simulation.

Indianapolis descended on the Miami area the last time the game was played in that locale, defeating the Bears, 29-17, following the 2006 season to hand quarterback Peyton Manning the first title of his esteemed career.
Also different is the team’s sideline leader. Former assistant head coach Jim Caldwell took over the top reins after Tony Dungy stepped down following last season, and became the first rookie head coach to lead his team to the Super Bowl stage since the Raiders’ Bill Callahan in 2002. No rookie head man has won a Super Bowl since George Seifert guided the 1989 San Francisco 49ers to the crown. With a win, Caldwell would become the second Colts rookie head coach to win a title, joining Don McCafferty, who led the then-Baltimore-based organization to a win over the Cowboys, also in Miami, in Super Bowl V.
The Saints, meanwhile, know all about firsts. This is the franchise’s first Super Bowl in a mostly star-crossed 43-year history, one that was attained following an all-time-best 13-3 regular season, followed by postseason victories over the Cardinals (45-14) and Vikings (31-28 in overtime). This also marks the first time New Orleans has won multiple playoff games in a campaign.
New Orleans head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees are amongst those who will be making their initial Super Bowl forays, even if Payton did serve as attacking coordinator on the 2000 New York Giants team that was a 34-7 loser to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV.
